Thomas Bexon knows a thing or two about surfboards. From humble beginnings as a teenager shaping his first board out of his mum’s garage to twenty years later where he is today regarded as one of the premier longboard & specialty shapers.
We’re excited to release a fin together that was inspired by the golden era of Australian mals during the mid-'60s. An all-round traditional longboarding template that incorporates the perfect amount of release and drive for turns but also with plenty of hold for nose riding."I have tried a lot of fins and this is the best combination of every element in one fin. A touch of flex in the tip but not too much so it doesn't get the doughy feeling that really flexible fins can give at times" - Thomas
The fin has also been a favourite of Sierra Lerback who has been pairing it with her Thomas StepDeck, a combo made for noseridng and illustrated perfectly on the waves of Noosa.
Another aspect of the collaboration that excited the Thomas team was the FCS II tool-less fin system.“The curse of being a longboarder and travelling, even just daily with plates and screws and taking fins in and out. This new system is a game-changer in terms of the ease with which you can pop your fin out and slide it forward half an inch in the surf, move it back... Pretty awesome how easy it is.” - Thomas
SurFebruary is a fun annual event in February, where participants raise money for cancer research by catching a wave or getting in the water every day – rain, hail or shine.
This episode sees Rich catch up with Mick Fanning on his recent trip to the US to chat about what he’s been riding, the development of his iconic fin template and how he came to embrace the FCS II system.
